If you are wise, be simple; if you are powerful, be weak; and when there is nothing to share, then share with others. How rare is one who is known as such a devotee.
ਮਤਿ ਹੋਦੀ ਹੋਇ ਇਆਣਾ ॥ ਤਾਣ ਹੋਦੇ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਤਾਣਾ ॥ ਅਣਹੋਦੇ ਆਪੁ ਵੰਡਾਏ ॥ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਭਗਤੁ ਸਦਾਏ ॥੧੨੮॥

The same idea in other traditions
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
When pride cometh, then cometh shame; But with the lowly is wisdom.
Giving and righteous conduct, kindness to relatives, blameless deeds: this is the highest blessing.
By doing service he acquires the Karman which brings about for him the nâman and gôtra of a Tîrthakara.
And the servants of (Allah) Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say, "Peace!";
… Yu Zo answered, "If the people have plenty, their prince will not be left to want alone. If the people are in want, their prince cannot enjoy plenty alone."
Let the rich satisfy the poor implorer, and bend his eye upon a longer pathway. Riches come now to one, now to another, and like the wheels of cars are ever rolling.
Lay not reproach at the drunkard’s door / Oh Fanatic, thou that art pure of soul; / Not thine on the page of life to enrol / The faults of others!
